Islanders 2 Canucks 1

What the hell was that all about?
Maybe Alain Vigneault's idea of putting the Sedins with Demitra was an ideal concept because they clicked for the Canucks' only goal, but why mess with what was successful against the Leafs? I anticipated Demitra playing with Wellwood and Pylon. So in the end, Dan Sedin played 22:16, Hank Sedin played 23:08 and Demitra played 21:08. Ass. Wellwood played 13:25, Mason Raymond played 10:18, Taylor Pyatt played 13:33 and the ice cold Steve Bernier received 16:17 of ice time. There is an imbalance there that I don't like.
The Canucks' inability to cash in on their power plays didn't help matters either. Nor did the futile attempts in the shootout. Thing is, it never should have gotten to the shootout.
The 1 point is nice, but you have to get the 2 points out of the lousy Islanders. And it only gets more difficult from here. Rangers next on Wednesday followed by the Wild the night after.

I was watching this game on the MSG network feed on Center Ice, and the Islanders announcers said that the Province and the Sun's write up and treatment of the Islanders in advance of the game was a big issue in the Islander's organization and amongst the players.

They said the Islanders felt deeply, deeply insulted and that the players were angry and upset. One announcer said he had not seen the Islanders this fired up this year.

Not sure how accurate this is (sounds at least a bit exaggerated) but, on the other hand, the Islanders seemed highly motivated, didn't they?

Pyatt still looks lost, Bernier can't buy a goal, and I simply do not understand Demitra with the Sedins.

The rest of the team, however, looked good, if a bit uninspired.

Imagine if Bernier actually found his mojo? Gads, the guy would have 50 goals.

Sundin needs to sign here. No question.

Kevinv: I read the Province preview and it didn't seem that boastfull. I have a related post coming up about this actually.

Temujin: I got the tickets!
I wouldn't rank Bernier that high. A 30-goal guy maybe. He seems to be lacking confidence.
Sundin? Oh yeah I'm in! But I guess we'll find out by Xmas. I still say Toronto.
