Gillis says Luongo is devoted to Canucks / Maybe Demitra is as well
"I've had a couple of opportunities to speak in detail with Roberto and I feel great about the conversations and his mindset about moving forward with this team," Mike Gillis said. "He is completely devoted to the team, wants to be competitive, wants to be in the playoffs, wants to win, and he made absolutely clear to me that's his focus. The idea that he doesn't want to be here is the furthest thing from being accurate."Sure, he's devoted now, while he is still under contract. But that could change when his contract expires in a couple of years.
Ah, the free agency buzz is already a flutter. The Sun also reports in the same article that unrestricted free agent Pavol Demitra has been spotted around Vancouver, checking out the sights. Mike Gillis was Demitra's agent at one point.
So already there is speculation that since Gillis represented a lot of good players, that he may be able to attract some star free agents. Demitra is only fuelling that fire.
I don't want Demitra here, personally. Too injury prone. Only 1 goal and 3 points in 6 games during the Wild's first round loss to Colorado following a decent season...etc. I think someone misinformed him about the 'spas for men' in Van City. Yeah, it's the Swedish Touch, not the Slovak Touch! Adiose, amigo. Get back on the bus.

Although the last guy who had a name suspiciously close to "Pavol" scored 60 goals in a Canuck uniform, I'm in the same boat as you. Thanks but no thanks.
How come Gillis never represented any good players? Hehehe
What about Bobby Holik??! OK I kid.
He did rep Bure though.
Would it be racist of me to say that I don't want anymore Euros on our team? I think Cherry was right when he mentioned in anger that he doesn't get why more Canadian teams don't draft guys out of Ontario.
I think Luongo wants to stay Van...in fact, he has 6+ million reasons to stay, haha.
Actually, after having his first taste of playoff hockey last year, he's realized the difference between playing for a contender, and a pretender. As long as he's CONVINCED the team, from the owners to the towel boy are committed to winning, he'll stick around.
BTW, your post got picked up by one of the Yahoo NHL experts blogs:

Rogene: thanks for the link...coolness!
"he has 6+ million reasons to stay, haha."
Yeah but he'd take $7 million plus elsewhere to be closer to his wife.
