Brian Burke a future Leafs GM?

Those are the reports coming out today. If Burke wants the job in Toronto it's his at the end of the season.
Why is this rumor fun? Because I can't wait to hear Burke's angry reactions to it. Sure to be comical, as his face goes red with rage.
Why Burke may not go to Toronto: Where would you rather live, California or Toronto? Burke loves the west coast and has always said that. Probably part of the reason why he took the Anaheim GM job in the first place.
Burke's wife, Jennifer Mather-Burke, according to this site in January "is hosting a lifestyle show on CBC-TV called Living Vancouver." Is she going to give up that job? Mather has long been a figure on BC television.
Is there any doubt that the Ducks will offer Burke a decent extension? The guy is a genius.
Why Burke would take the job in Toronto: $$$$$$$$$$$$

I can think of one reason why he'd take the Leafs job. His ego. He's already won the cup in Anaheim, what more can he do there? He'd go down in history as the greatest GM (because we'd never hear the end of it) if he could somehow turn the Leafs around and they actually won the cup sometime in the next decade. I think he's up for a new challenge. I wouldnt be surprised.

That is a good point actually. Quite possible.

I used to lust after Jennifer Mather when she did the news here.. rawr! Lucky crusty old bastard..

Still, I'd be happy if he got the leafs GM job.. he's one guy that would definitely be able to tell those MLSE douches where they can cram it!

One reason Burke wouldn't take the job: EGO

Burke is the type of GM that needs free reign. He didn't get it in Vancouver, and was ousted by the owner's right-hand douchebag.

Can you imagine Burke trying to go through 15 layers of MLSE bumbleheads? IT won't happen.

It's just typical of the Toronto media that everyone wants to play/coach/GM there, despite the fact that they are in great situations where they are already.

I gots to agree with Jes there, it seems a lot less likely that MLSE will afford a Brian Colangelo-type free reign to the hockey GM.. All of those tools think they know what is best for the hockey side, whereas they realized they were clueless about the basketball side..

Still, it would be fascinating if burkey does get landed for the big job! A Yankee GM for the leafs.. what has the world come to!
