Penguins place Mark Recchi on waivers

Recchi has only 2 goals and 6 assists in 19 games played this year. He has been a healthy scratch in 7 of his last 8 games.
But that doesn't mean that Recchi is done like dinner though. He can still put up better numbers than that, even if he is 39 years old. He still has blazing speed and good hands. Last season with Pittsburgh, he scored 24 goals and 68 points in 82 games. Not bad at all.
In his regular season career, he has 510 goals and 1341 points in 1357 games. Recchi has 47 goals and 117 points in 140 career playoff games. He won a Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 1991 (34 points in 24 games) and also with the Hurricanes in 2006 (16point in 25 games.)
Recchi is a leader. He is still a good value at $2 million per season. I cannot see anyone passing on this guy.....yet.
I'd welcome him in Vancouver. You?

Doesn't Vancouver already have a leader-type who is constantly being scratched with Linden?

The NHL's loss is some beer league's gain, that's for sure!

I'm thinking Recchi will be picked up somewhere. I'd love to see him in Vancouver, but at the moment, it doesn't seem too feasible: Linden brings most of the same things such as leadership and a bit of offence to the table (plus better defence) and is having his own troubles cracking the lineup, as James mentioned above. The cap hit of $2 million is also probably more than the Canucks can afford. Hopefully, one of the younger teams with some cap space (Washington or Chicago, maybe?) will take a chance on him: it would be a shame to see him go the Mogilny route of a good player forced out of the league before his time due to an excessive contract.

When it would come to Recchi coming here, I'd say "Screw Linden!" And "Screw Byron Ritchie!!"
The Wrecking Ball still had over 60 points last season. Plus the Canucks wouldn't have to pay the whole $2 million. Anyways, I doubt he's coming here either. But a dude can wish, right?

Wait a minute, what am I saying? It should be "Screw Cowan!" The brabarian is all but lost.
