Canucks claim D Mike Weaver / Send 7 back to the Moose

So Nonis keeps on adding defencemen to the Canucks' system. Today he claimed Mike Weaver off waivers from the Kings.
Weaver had 3 goals and 9 points in 39 games with the Kings last year. He has 3 goals and 24 points in 149 career NHL games.
The 29 year-old was signed as free agent by Atlanta in 2000 and was never drafted it seems.
I believe his salary with Los Angeles was $500,000.

Weaver Pro's (from Sportsnet)

Moves the puck well out of the defensive zone and owns decent offensive instincts. Doesn't shy away from the rough going.

Weaver Cons
Needs to work on taking the body consistently and must add more strength in order to compete against bigger NHL forwards.

His career potential is listed as a "reserve defenceman".

So I guess the Moose or Giants are still short defencemen. OK, maybe not the Moose.

Career stats

The following players were sent back down to Manitoba yesterday:

Luc Bourdon,Defence

Mike Brown, Right Wing

Patrick Coulombe, Defence

Michael Grabner, Right Wing

Jannik Hansen, Left Wing

Jason Jaffray, Left Wing (dammit)

Rick Rypien, Centre

Is Mason Raymond going to stick with the Sedins this season?

I'm not. We are so deep on defence. I wish Jaffray would've made it though.
