Soccer sucks

If diving in hockey ever gets this bad, I'll quit watching. It's bad enough already as it is.

I wonder why soccer won't catch on in the States, either?

With some of those, I just wonder what game the officials viewed. I especially liked the one at the end where the coach (I guess) head butted the player and they both fall down...

The States have too many loved sports as it is!

I think Canada needs to lose the curling love though. A great sport to play, but lousy to watch on tv!

Does soccer even have diving calls???

Well, you have the Italians to thank for that (and now the Asians).

Hockey will never be like this, because the players are allowed to police the game through 'the code' and fighting. In hockey, when someone does that, somebody on the other team takes a number and remembers. It doesn't happen in soccer. It should, though...it would clean the game up considerably.

I cannot tell you how many times I have watched a soccer match and seen some guy run near the net while his teammate dekes out the defender and lays a perfect cross right on the strikers foot for the goal? What does the striker do to celebrate? Runs into the corner by himself, pats himself on the back and acts as though he is THE MAN. I have told my son countless times...if that ever happens to him, first thing you do, is run over to the guy that passed the ball and shake his hand in thanks.

Soccer players do come accross as selfish indeed. It's just not my kind of sport to watch.
So the Italians dove first??
My Russian wife said that Ruskie soccer players never did that.
I wanted to say that they save all their diving for hockey...heheh

Well as an Europeen i just have to barge in.
Diving didn´t start with Italians (they play very a defensive game, think the Devils a years back).
The purpose is simple, since there are no fights, you have to find a way to mess with your oponent. You are all good examples of the reaction, you hate it (as i) so when you see a player doin it , your tackles get more agressive, you loose your cool (play worse) and you´ll probably get a yellow or a red card. Stay with me here, if you get a yellow card and there is a play when a player from the other tema is on a breakway and you stop him in a foul, it s another yellow and you are out of the game, its like a permanent PP for the other team. If you dont foul him, it s a scoring chance, so you have to choose.Sometimes its to gain time, unlike Hockey, in Soccer the time doesn´t stop when the play stops. So if you are playin against a stronger team, you will try to squeeze every minutes you can ( every fan hates this, but winning tastes good right???)
As for celebrations, well its not that simple, just watch a English match, the player usually runs for the fans and celebrates with them( and gets a yellow card), because after all they are there for us.
To finish, just a few more pointers, there are "enforcers" in soccer, guys who intimidate, makin legal (and brutal) tackles. And like this video there are others were you see kicks in the face (by acident), elbowing and such. Soccer players dont have protections.
Its a beautifull game, just watch the champions League ( it´s like the Playoffs). Hey we are a couple of billionbs who love the game, we are not all crazy.
Sorry for the lenght and the English.

All the players diving in that clip must be relatives of Markus Naslund:)

Huganov- thanks for the input. I just can't get into it. I like seeing more goals and sports with aggression and violence.

You get a yellow card for celebrating with the fans????

JimBuff: Naslund is a lot of things, but not a diver though! You mean Alex Burrows!

Yes. Takin your "jersey off" gets you the same prize, a yellow.
Well, try Fustsal. 5 on 5 soccer, on a small rink (like basketball) with more speed and scoring (altough to much scoring takes away the thrill, i hate basketball, its beautifull to watch bet....), line changes ( in soccer once a player gets substituted, he doesnt return).
Only less violence, altough someone may think handball is violence free and, well sometimes it aint pretty.
Its all about the small things, just imagine that time of glue yhey put on their hands to hold the ball bettere, now imagine those hands sliding down on your legs, while the referee doesnt look, and your leg hair is being torn apart. Small things.
In the end, most of Western Europeans think hockey its too violent. They dont understand why there are fights and those huge checks. After all European Hockey its diferent too. Stil i prefere yours, altough i prefere those little guys with great speed and Hands (Bure) Hey its a little like you overthere, you just have to give it a try.

Italians may not have invented diving but they and the Portuguese and Argentines sure perfected it!

There is lots of pussy play in hockey and tonnes of simulation in basketball (Jumping into defenders to get free throws/flopping to draw charging fouls) and baseball is about the pussiest sport on the planet. Even their tough sport (football) is a pansy version of Rugby.

A huge part of why soccer hasn't caught on in the states is because it's seen as a foreigner's/immigrant's game.
