Iron Mike to Ignite Flames?

TSN is reporting that Mike Keenan is on the verge of becoming the next coach of the Calgary Flames. Even though the Flames went 43-25-10 this past season under Jim Playfair, their lack of ability to win on the road embarassingly cost them the first round against the Red Wings.
Keenan is more of a Sutter-type than Playfair I'm sure. He doesn't f**k around, and brings out the best in his players through psychological rants. He holds them accountable.
What really had concerned me is how Playfair was not let go earlier, weeks prior to the end of the season when the Flames were playing subpar. I thought Sutter would have taken over the head coach job and fire Playfair before the playoffs had started.
Keenan should bring some sense of identity to this Flames team that desperately needs it.
Keenan will also bring controversy, no doubt about it.

**UPDATE**
Jim Playfair will probably remain with the Flames as an assistant coach.

I think you mean the Flames couldn't win on the road. Their home record was the best in the league. Hope you are feeling better.

I've never been a big Keenan fan, but I guess it's worth a shot. I dont think the Flames have ever had a coach like him. Most Flames coaches have been what I would call soft. Playfair, Dave King, those types of guys, so it should be interesting to see how they react to him. Huselius may not be too happy though. I think Keenan was the one who sent him to Calgary in the first place.

Corrected: the can't win on the road!!! It's late!

That team needed a hard ass approach. Something Sutter gave them in their Cup run I'm sure! That is why Sutter is picking Iron Mike.

Huselius better get some nice pillows for his time in the dog house, he'll be riding the bench yet again.. He should hike up the road to the oilers!

Haha! Huselius might be in shit, yes. But he actually played well down the stretch. Keenan always has a way of bringing out the very best in a few players. That could be Iginla, Langkow and Tanguay this time around.

Personally I think Keenan is a really bad move. If Sutter wasn't there...this team would be dismantled. Sutter might be the only saving grace.
