Flyers acquire 2 Predators

According to TSN: Because of Nashville's uncertain ownership future and an expected tight budget in the coming year, sources tell TSN the Predators arranged with the Flyers to give them exclusive negotiating rights to two coveted free agents - defenceman Kimmo Timonen and forward Scott Hartnell.
Apparently, they have signed Hartnell to a 6-year, $25.2 million deal that pays him $4.2 million perseason. That seems a tad high for a guy who scored 22 goals and 39 points in 64 games last season. He must have a terrific upside.
They have signed Kimmo Timmonen to a 6-year, $37.8 million contract, paying him $6.3 million per season. Wow the stock in defenceman is still insanely high. The Preds are so deep on defence that Kimmo was expedible anyway. The defenceman had 13 goals and 55 points in 80 games last season. The Flyers were sorely lacking an effective offensive defenceman last season.

In exchange for these 2 signings, Nashville gets back their first overall pick that was originally acquired in the Forsberg deal.

I like the Flyers but they are nuts to trade a 1st rdr and sign those guys to 6 yr deals for that much $.

I like the acquisition of Timmonen at that price. He's consistently good as an offensive threat.
Hartnell tho..yeesh!
