If the playoffs started RIGHT NOW...Round 1

Too bad the playoffs didn't start right now. But IF they did, here is what the playoff picture would look like, as well as my ever-so-ballsy round-by-round predictions:

Round 1

1. Buffalo vs Toronto. Would be a hell of a series, with the Sabres coming out on top in 5.

2. Atlanta vs Carolina. With all of the Cane's depth and playoff experience, I pick the Canes in 4.

3. New Jersey vs Ottawa. The Devils are hot and the Sens are not. Devils in 5.

4. Canadiens vs NY Rangers. The Habs are sick and slumping, but manage to steal this one in 7 games.

Round 1

1. Anaheim vs. Minnesota. Sure, Pronger is hurt, and the Ducks are slumping, but I'd pick the Ducks to win this one in 5 anyway, wouldn't you?

2. Nashville vs Calgary. The Flamers suck on the road, and the Preds are ready with Vokoun this time. The Preds would win this one in a sweep!

3. Vancouver vs Dallas. With injuries to Morrow, Modano, and Zubov, and the Canucks being red hot, the Canucks lay the pathetic Stars to rest in 5, because Luongo has one bad game.....

4. San Jose vs Detroit. This one would be a tough call. I'd have to roll the dice and pick the Sharks in 7 games, because the Wings don't have playoff wizards Yzerman and Shanahan anymore.

Anyone disagree? Comment away!

Round 2 tomorrow.

You give too much credit to the Rangers...they suck right now. Even a sickly Habs team would dispatch them in about 5 right now.

And sadly, I can see Calgary making a series out of it with the Preds. But I think of all the teams in the West now, the Preds scare me the most. I guess I should say the Ducks, but they've had so much sunshine blown up their ass since the beginning of the season it'd be fun if THEY got swept. Tee hee.

I've heard more than one person say that they think that the Ducks will be upset in the first round.
I give the Rangers more credit right now because they have Shanny. I suppose the goaltending is the biggest question though. Perhaps your assessment is correct, Mike!

Thank god the playoffs will not start right now, we gotta wait until Pronger/Beauchemin/Giguere decide to get the band back together.

Yeah, that is true indeed! Now imagine how much the Canucks rely on Luongo and pray he doesn't get hurt!
The loss of Frenchie and Pronger is a pretty massive blow to the D though, I must say!
