Gelinas to return to Calgary?
The Calgary Sun is reporting, more like suggesting that the Flames should reacquire Martin Gelinas.
And while you know Darryl Sutter is looking hard to find the next Marcus
Nilson or Ville Nieminen, who arrived quietly near the trade deadline to pay big
dividends, there is one acquisition out there as obvious as a streaker at
Safeway: Bringing back The Eliminator, Martin Gelinas.
Currently playing out
the string in Florida where he'll walk as an unrestricted free agent at season's
end, Gelinas would easily be farmed out to any team willing to give up a fourth-
or fifth-round draft pick.
Truth is, few teams would be interested in the
36-year-old workhorse who has just six goals and 15 assists in 50 games. He's
only being used 12 minutes a night.
Nowhere in the world would he be more
appreciated than Calgary where the feisty left-winger became a local icon after
scoring the winning goal in each of the first three rounds of the club's 2004
playoff run.
Reporting to camp every year as the fittest Flame, Gelinas
epitomized the work ethic and heart that got the Flames one goal from a Stanley
Cup that year.
Two years later, could he duplicate his heroics down the
stretch or into the playoffs? Not on your life.
Know what I think? I think Calgary should piss off! Gelinas would be better suited with the Canucks, because the Flamers have less dignity, less poise, less pride, and less chance of making it into the playoffs! Get to the back of the line, Calgary.
Hey Gelinas, come back to a city where you were truly loved...VANCOUVER!!!

I just wrote a letter to Gelinas and it reads as follows:
Dear Mr. Gelinas,
I am writing you in the form of begging not to take Darryl Sutter's invitation to heart. I know you are desperate in Florida, being out of a playoff race and all, but I am asking, no, begging you to consider Vancouver.
Sure you had a great run with Calgary a few years back, and you were a clutch player. But does that really compare to what you accomplished in Vancouver as a team in 1994? Not even close. You KNOW that!
The current Canuck squad is poised to take a run at the Cup. The Flames will burn out in the first round. Not even YOU can save that shit show that is in Calgary! Face it, Iginla and Kiprusoff are over rated!
To top it off, the Flames are making it clear that you will see 3rd and 4th line duties. Alain Vigneault will use you on the top 2 lines. Imagine playing with the sisters! You've always wanted to!
Now, go and talk to Jacques Martin. Tell him that we'll offer you a good, young defenceman. If he doesn't like that, tell him that we'll offer a superstar named Jan Bulis. Of course, you'll have to stretch the truth a little and convince him that Bulis can score 30-40 goals in a good year, and that every year he's had has been an off year.
By the way, we are very sorry for the whole Mike Keenan chirade. We promise you that all of the shitbags have been weeded out since you last played here!

Why would Gelinas even think about going to the Canucks. They had a good run for a few games, but they'll come back down to earth any day now. Bieksa will realize he really is only a 3rd or 4th line defenceman, Luongo will get hurt, Naslund will continue to suck, the sisters will decide to get themselves sewn together because they can't stand being apart for one second, and once Bulis is gone, it's all over!!!!
If Gelinas has any say in the matter, he'll be back in Calgary, where hopefully he'll eliminate the Canucks again!!! HAHA!!!
The day Gelinas puts on a Canuck jersey is the day there are riots on Granville and Georgia streets.
It would be more likely that Pronger returns to the Oilers.
Or Kariya to the Ducks.
Or Tiger Williams to the Leafs!
I would never, ever, ever, ever be in favor of Gelinas signing with the Canucks. That treacherous, traitorous rat sack of mouse poop can rot away in Florida and then wither away as a free agent for all I care.
