It gives the blog owner more control over the content of the comment section. With haloscan you can trace the IP address of every commenter, and if someone spams you or is a troll you can ban them.

That's not why I did it though. I wanted to be like the Battle of Ontario and have the comments show up in the sidebar. I just think it looks cool is all!

Then again, I just got rid of it. Unless you have a premium account, it is kind of risky.

the ads, the autoinstall, etc.
It wasn't a clean autoinstall IMO.
The problem with the free widgets is that they put ads on your site and you have less customizing options until you upgrade.
I guess Battle of Ontario has the premium version because I don't see any ads in their comments section. The free version does.
