13 MILLION REASONS WHY THIS WONT WORK

Did Brian Burke finally pull a boner and make a unwise decision bringing a second overpaid defenseman into the mix?? Burke has tied up a 1/3 of his salary cap on two players, lost a 28 goal scorer in Lupel and can't afford to keep Vishnevski. Selanne, Giguere and the rest of the defensive core become UFA's next year, with Getzlaf, Perry, Penner and Beauchemin becoming RFA's.

For the price of Pronger, Burke could have got Jay Mckee, kept Lupel and still have bucks to shop.

My predictions: Garth Snow has a job longer than Burke does. The Ducks don't make the playoffs.

Garth Snow has a job longer than Burke does.

Which job? By next year, Snow will probably be commissioner of the league.

The Ducks don't make the playoffs.

Sure, we'll probably have a different name and uniform by them. How about shortening it to "Dk"?

Oh, and this prediction obviously doesn't take into consideration the franchise-changing acquisition of Travis Green.

I am so excited I could vomit.

Actually, Travis Green is a gritty veteran who can kill penalties better than any other Duck on that roster! You'll like him Earl!

Don't you trashtalk Sammy Pahlsson like that. Or Todd Marchant, for that matter.

Remember, this isn't the first time we've had Travis Green.

Hell, I'm writing a post about it now.

Oh yeah I forgot! Doesn't matter, Green Green Green!
Make a new banner Hodge, I'm jumping on the Ducks wagon right now!

Ah Tapeleg, those are hilarious!
Are you going to do something with them, or should I?

OK, posted (though a so-so post, I must say).

It felt weird writing about hockey, all I've been doing lately is making jokes!

Am I the only guy who likes blogging better in the offseason?

Z - Go for it, but I might put them up also, in a few days. When I do, I'll be pointing to your blog. I have a couple of things in the pipe right now, that are a little time dependant. Have fun with them.

E S - I'm afraid of burning too much too fast. This off-season is pretty fun.

tapeleg, I hear ya, but it seems I'm loving it even more when I'm not constrained by 'what's going on'.

Hodge, btw, I love that picture. That's Sleek-approved 100%.

Z & H, I saw you guys on Hockey Blogs today for the first time. Did you just 'enlist'? I've been wondering whether I should do that myself, except:
a) I'm not exactly sure how
b) I don't know how badly I want more readers; it might be 'bad' pressure, if you know what I mean.

I'm fairly fond of my b.s. blogging skills, with more readers, maybe I have to get 'legit'.

At August 10, 2006 at 6:54 p.m. , Blogger Tapeleg said...

E.S. - Just do it. Why not? And you may get more readers, or you may not. Just do it for yourself, or the conversation, and who cares who reads? I would like more people from Denver reading mine, but when the season starts, they probably will. Leave "Legit" to the mainstream. You're doing a great job at your blog.

You forgot about (a).

Earl, I enlisted 2 days ago! It's a good thing, you gotta do it!

Tapeleg, your blog is good as well, I'll bet you get traffic during the season for sure!

"I'm afraid of burning too much too fast"

I agree. There's still 2 bloody months left before the season. How much Florida-praising, Canuck-slandering stuff can I put out in 2 months?

Z - We'll see. Right now, it seams the only people reading are other bloggers, but that's kinda fun. I don't have a good hook like you, being the Capt. Morgan's blogger.

Maybe I need to ask this more specifically.

Does my 'Site Feed URL' (http://battleofcalifornia.blogspot.com/atom.xml) go into the 'Team/Sport Specific RSS Feeds' field on the Blogger application?

You have to understand; I know shit about blogging. When I started, the two things I knew how to do were post some text and insert a picture or two. I didn't even start the blog; that was Mirtle.

At August 10, 2006 at 7:27 p.m. , Blogger Sean Zandberg said...

I believe it does Earl. I'm scoping it out for you right now.

At August 10, 2006 at 7:29 p.m. , Blogger Sean Zandberg said...

Actually, I left the RSS feed blank I believe.

At August 10, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. , Blogger Tapeleg said...

Yep, that will do it. They will send you an email in a day or so.

Also, if you want some blogging pointers, read some of the Behind the Blog entries at Behind the Jersey. Take them for what they are, just a bunch of people doing some stuff. No pressure.

BTW, I disagree, you do know shit about blogging. ;)

At August 10, 2006 at 7:35 p.m. , Blogger Earl Sleek said...

Dude, I didn't know about that Behind the Blog stuff while it was going on, so I read them all in one day a couple weeks ago.

When I say I don't know shit about blogging, that's purely in a technical sense. For instance, I don't know how to insert a YouTube, or have a listing of 'recent posts', or anything useful like that.

I gotta send a message to the other guys on the Blog before I go to Blogger, but thanks for the tip.

At August 10, 2006 at 7:35 p.m. , Blogger Sean Zandberg said...

I left it blank because we are a general blog...me=duh. But I didn't put our feed in the general RSS slot and we are still getting advertised. Hmm..

Back on topic of the Ducks, I am starting to get a sneaky suspicion that Beauchemin gets moved sometime this year or in the next offseason.

If Burke won't pay the Vish raise with the $13M committed, how's he going to pay the Beauch raise, which will be much higher?

Sure, Frenchy's got more upside, but I think Burke's gotta sell high on the kid and then try to find the next kid for Scott or Chris to adopt.

Burkie Burkie, I'd hate the hell out of you if it didn't seem to be working out.

Oh yeah, btw, I'm drinking quite a bit tonight. In honor of Zanstorm.

Nice post on your site! Did you find a job yet? I was thinking PR at MSGN. I may have to use a gun to persuade them though.

Screw the NHL. We should just form one megablog (a la Voltron) with 30 teams represented, play out the season on our PS2, and write infinitely more entertaining recaps and anecdotes and steal the league's thunder.

Then would they hire us?

Re: David Crowe

I sent a very non-committal email back to the guy, and even got a reply back, but I dunno.

He's hit some poorly-updated blogs as well, and the text is awfully similar.

It made me feel cheapened, not worthy.

Z - Thanks, I thought I'd get more reaction to the previous post.
At MSG, they would probably respect that.

ES- Someone emailed me wondering if there was a hockey blogger fantasy league. Also, you may have to bribe someone to blog about the Blackhawks.

H - So are we saying that the success of a GM is now going to be short term? Are we going to have more musical GMs than before?

At August 10, 2006 at 10:47 p.m. , Blogger Sean Zandberg said...

No way Hodge, a GM's success can be long term, if he plays his cards right. Darcy Regier will prove this. Burke is a wizard at the draft as well. He will secure the Duck's future, not piss it away.
The signing of Green is another piece to their potential Cup run this year. The Ducks are awesome on paper. As are the Sharks. Who will stop them?

The Ducks' success this year will not be Cinderella. They are becoming a favorite. Burke created that. He rules!
(see the dumping of Federov and Sykora, and the success that followed)
The Cinderella story will be less of a factor with the cap structuring. Teams are supposed to be on a level playing field now!

Hodge, check out the post editing page. There's one with your name on it courtesy of Tapeleg! It's all yours! The Zanstorm one is mine!

At August 10, 2006 at 10:54 p.m. , Blogger Tapeleg said...

When things settle down (ie when the rich and the cheap come a little closer together), I think a GMs success is going to depend on his resigning of RFAs more than signing good UFAs.

I am pulling that out of my ass, but if I'm right, I said it.

Word Ver: cretfaef. That should be on the back of a jersey.

Also, I am not this popular on my blog. I suck
