SHORTEST GM TERM EVER?
New Islander's GM Neil Smith has been fired ALREADY
for undisclosed reasons. A statement from the Islanders
is expected sometime today, and the reasons for the firing will
be revealed.
Smith was hired as the GM in mid-June. He made a few
significant signings this summer, acquiring Brendan Witt,
Mike Sillinger, Chris Simon, and Tom Poti.
So why the firing? Did he bang the boss' wife?
Did he fail to make a blockbuster trade or huge free
agent signing? I don't want to find out that Ted Nolan
had something to do with this!
Does anyone else wonder if Pat Quinn could be next in
line? Or will Mike Milbury take back what was his?

Comments from the Isles owner as reported on the Hockey News site suggest Smith wasn't willing to be part of a committee style leadership role, with Nolan,Lafontaine and Trots having a say in things.
Maybe he'll back at TSN so they can send the punch drunks(Berg,Nattress)back to their respective urine stained lazyboys.
Here's Wangs statement:
"As I made clear at the press conference last month, we are running this as a business, incorporating the opinions of our hockey operations staff – including Ted Nolan, Bryan Trottier and Pat LaFontaine," said Wang. "Despite Neil's commitment to me that he could work in this environment, he later expressed to me on a number of occasions his philosophical opposition to our business model.
"In light of our differences, I felt that I had no choice but to make this decision in the best interests of the Islanders and our fans."
