HASEK RETURNING TO DETROIT

There is reports out of Detroit that Dominic Hasek will sign with the Red Wings for one more year. The Wings had no plans to stick with Manny Legace or Chris Osgood as their number one goalies this year, and signing a bigger name goalie was imminent.
The question now is if Hasek's groin will be able to withstand another season. Last season Hasek had great numbers in Ottawa until he injured his groin at the Turin Olympics. He then missed the rest of the season and playoffs.
It is an interesting scenario. For one, Wings fans were awfully nervous about the chance of Belfour coming to Motown, but can they be any more or less excited about Hasek?
Another issue is: Why the hell don't they like Manny Legace? Legace was 37 - 8 - 3 last season with a 2.19 GAA. Strange.
Hasek's deal will include incentives. So maybe that will heal his groin a little quicker. Either way, not even Hasek can save the potential downward spiral in the standings for the Wings, IMO.
Terms of the deal were not announced at this time.

Sink or stink? Is there a happy medium here? This will be a year where we definitely see what the Wings supporting core is made of. I doubt they'll be as strong, but there's still Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsyuk and a clan of weasels to keep 'em decent.

Ok, so that's 2 swedes and a russian! The Red Wings are developing a Canuck problem! Too many swedes and the Canadians are leaving!

The grit is Canadian - Draper Maltby, Williams etc. Funny how the Sens lose because of them and the Red Wings win with them!

I guess it's all about WHO you draft, or maybe how you coach them!

I think it should go to Draper.

I have said it at a ton of places already, but it's just one of those things that bears repeating...especially in this instance:

Old habits, like the Wings' penchant for signing old/possibly past their prime players, die hard.

I will be royally surprised if this does not bite the Wings in their red rear-ends.

It starts with qualities of players you draft. Intangibles like how they play in adversity, their work habits away from the puck, and willingness to learn. A lot of the Wings best players over the years were later picks. They have been brought up well through the organization and coached within their abilities until they become complete players.

The Captain will likely be Lidstrom, though Draper is not a bad choice at all.

Old players still around have good work ethics. Having seen it all, these players fit in with more ease than some others would.

I think they should go with three A's this year.
