BELFOUR DEFIES NAYSAYERS, SIGNS IN FLORIDA

The 41 - year old has signed with the Panthers for 1 year, at $750,000 plus incentives.
Reports say he will split goaltending duties with Alex Auld this season. It seemed unusual that the talent-ridden Panthers would rely solely on an un-proven Auld in the first place. I figure Eddie will take the #1 position by late October.
This is a smart move by Keenan regardless of what Belfour-haters say. Belfour has constantly returned from back problems and proven to be a good starting goalie. At this point I don't believe his age is of too much significance.
This re-unites Eddie with Captain Hook Keenan. Their relationship in the past as members of the Black Hawks was rocky,
but this time around Keenan is GM and Jacques Martin is the coach.
Belfour is second on the all time wins list by a goalie, and will probably only get close to first place, held by Patrick Roy.
Wow, I'm going to jump on the Florida badwagon this year, now that they have two of my faves in Gary Roberts and Belfour.

Unless he goes down with an injury early, I think its going to be ugly. Can't see him or Auld wanting to share a role and I really can't see Eddie as the "mentor". Dumb move. I'm prodicting Gong Show caliber season in Florida.

PS. Roberts quit!!!!

There is still no more word on Roberts lately. Hope he returns, even though he's acting like a bag of shit.

I never understood why Roberts and Nieuwendyk signed on with Florida so quickly last year. Within hours of free agency opening - were they scared. Ottawa should jump on this pair like Hugh Hefner with a fistful of Viagra. Lots of teams could use this duo.

They are a hell of a duo at a helluva price. But Florida is going to make a playoff run this year, MARK MY WORDS!

Stumpy should go to Vancouver....they could put the "C" on him for sure!

Yah, sign Stumpy. he could join Keane on the Moose fossil line.

Hey Zanstorm, what do you mean by the Panthers playoff run?? You mean they're going to attempt to get "into" the playoffs??

I also believe they will make a playoff run. It will trip up somewhere around January!

C'mon, the Panthers suck, even in the weakest division. They trade away the best goalie in the league, add Belfour to the growing list of "older than dirt" players, get the $6 Million dollar drop passer. Sideshow at best Zanstorm.

You seem to forget their resurgence at the end of last season. They came up just short of a playoff spot. IMO, Florida's division has weakened somewhat, including Tampa Bay, Atlanta, and perhaps even Carolina to some degree.
