Red Wings 3 Canucks 2: Luongo Blows It

The picture pretty much tells it all. The Canucks were in this one right up until Bobby "The Not-So Brain" Luongo flubbed on Johan Franzen's slapshot from the circle at 6:19 of the 3rd period, to make the game 3-2. That pretty much deflated the Canucks at that point. Any momentum they had was squashed, and the Wings finished this one off. Sure, Jan Bulis is a knob. He 'interfered' with Hasek in the crease when Alex Burrows scored the potential tying goal. That could have tied it...yadda yadda. Luongo should have stopped that shot by Franzen...why???? Because the Nucks are paying him $6 million to stop those ones to keep the team in it. Once again, Luongo is not equal to the task.
The fact that Detroit outshot Vancouver 24-10 when the 2nd period ended is still only a minute part of the problem.
Once the dust settled, Canuck fans were left with another heartbreak. The Canucks were dealt a critical blow, as Calgary beat St. Louis tonight and took over 8th spot of the Western Conference, and won their 5th straight game. The Canucks are out of the playoff picture in 9th, 1 point behind. They have lost 6 of their last 7.
Any positives in this one? Well...Burrows was terrific tonight, and Willie Mitchell returned...but this loss was a stinger.
Zanstorm's 3 stars:
1. Daniel Cleary. 2 assists.
2. Dominic Hasek. Winning goalie, looked pretty sharp. Is a better diver than Greg Louganus. Piece of dung.
3. Kevin Bieksa. A great game by Bieksa. Finished a +1 in a losing cause, and had many chances.

Zanstorm's I hate Bulis meter:
12.5/10. Fucking Bulis. Hope you get hit by a bus, you gutless weasel.

Consider Bulis a gift from Habs fans to Canucks fans. It took 4 years to make him this good! Hope you like him.

man, you have a way of posting game pictures that make me want to punch through my computer screen into the wall behind it. For the next Luongo five-hole embarrassing game winner, please post a picture of a puppy in a basket, ok? :)

oh come on... sure Luongo gave up this one but he's been the best canuck in the last 8 games. i'm still splitting mad at everyone not from sweden. like wtf?

scoring is killing this team, not goaltending. don't blame the last nail in the coffin for the corpse. where the hell is the scoring?

The Emulator can be yours. Trade us Plekanec, eh?

It would be nice if the Canucks could ever SCORE MORE THAN 2 GOALS A FRICKIN' GAME!!!

As for Robo, he certainly hasn't been the $6mil man. He's been good, but Dorka Bay aren't paying him to merely be good.

I've been defending Luongo up to this point in the season, and bashing the offence.
Sometimes, like last night especially, the $6 million goalie had to bail out his team in a close game. The Canucks were on the verge of winning, with full momentum, and then Bobby lets in the Cloutier special. You could see the look on his face afterward. He knew he should have had it. He hung his head in shame.
I still think he isn't sharp when he doesn't face many shots, and I don't know if he can improve on that.

Although he did face quite a few shots last night, Zany. He just wasn't set for Franzen's shot at all.

I wish they would leave Pyatt with the Sedins, and try Naslund with Burrows and Anyone. Why put all our scoring on just one line?

And goodness I hope we keep working on our PP. The first 4 were brutal.

Sure, he stopped alot of shots, I'll give him that. But he hasn't stole a game yet. He is making Brodeur money. He should steal a few games!!!
I've seen goalies with minimum salaries steal games this year, and Luongo hasn't.
If these guys (Naslund included) want to make that much money, then by Gad, people need to hold them more accountable.

No argument there, bud. Who else wishes we had let Kesler walk and spent that 1.9 mill elsewhere?
