Blackhawks 4 Canucks 2: Semi-live coverage
I'm not sure if Alain Vigneault wants the Canucks to be this aggressive in the Hawks zone, especially regarding defencemen pinching in. The Hawks look much faster than us.
Good to see Demitra cash in and Pyatt be the aggressor to help out. But the Hawks tied the game right away and then went ahead on a flukey one off Ohlund's stick.
Bieksa returns to the lineup and then Glass Joe Salo gets hurt. The injury curse on our back end lives. Damn it.
Be interesting to see if the Canucks can show more composure in period 2.
PERIOD 2
What John Garrett just said is right: the Canucks can draw some positives out of period 2. They killed the penalties against better in the 2nd frame. They also played a little tighter defensively and limited Chicago's chances. Towards the end of the period the Canucks' passing got a little crisper and Bernier almost scored on a breakway but was thwarted by Huet.
- Ooo, a Demitra Special in between period 2 and 3. How unfitting. Did I pay for this?
To Demitra's credit he is playing a little more gritty tonight rather than being perimeter. I want to see him shoot more sometimes.
PERIOD 3
- confirmed: Salo has a groin injury
Hordichuk has a knee injury
Demitra broke the nail on his pinky and hasn't returned.
A better effort did ensue from the Canucks in the 3rd but there were still too many problems.
- defencemen getting caught pinching up the ice
-defensive zone coverage was inconsistent.
- Luongo was not very sharp and has been inconsistent lately
- too many penalties taken. Many needless ones.
If Patrick Kane misses Denis Savard he has a funny way of showing it. Is that 5 points since the firing?
That's the 2nd time I've paid for a Canucks game and it was lousy. Huh.

So far, the Canucks are showing signs of turning into a team that is almost, but not quite, competitive. They need to step it up a bit.
LOL on Ohlund's goal on the other thread!
The Canucks are showing signs of collapse long term in my opinion. Gone is my positivity for the moment.
I don't like their composure. Something just isn't right yet. Actually, many things are not right yet. Consistency is a big one.
I hate to say it, Sean, but I get the same feeling. Something isn't right...but on the other hand, let's face it: these long Eastern road trips always kick our butts. so maybe that's all it is.
Hope you're right.
here's my metaphor for the canucks defense re: injuries,
if you throw a bunch of porcelain dolls in a clothes dryer, you should expect that some of them will break.
from this you can gather that i don't think anyone should refer to injury problems on the back as a "curse", just the natural order of thing with the players we have.
True. I used the word cursed too lightly.
Nice metaphor by the way.
I hope Demitra's out for a few and Ouellet gets a chance. That is possible right?
Ouellet has 6 points in 4 games with the Moose already.
I think Ouellet would be a welcomed addition then!
Kane has 6 points since Savvy got the axe.
That was the best the Hawks have played all season so far...can you tell how snakebit Toews is? He couldn't even get an empty netter before the horn.
Yeah. I can't wait until Toews snaps out of his funk.
