Hawks embarass Canucks 4-1
I'm finding it very hard to believe that the Canucks could play this poorly in such an important game. Pick any category in today's game and I bet the Hawks beat us in it.
"They wanted it more than we did," Canucks captain Markus Naslund said. "They came out hard and we didn't respond to them at all." When someone mentioned to Naslund that the Canucks only had 10 shots on goal Naslund replied:Well Nazzy, YOU are the damned captain. You can stand in front of the press every postgame and cry that the team isn't desperate enough. But that doesn't cut it. I want to see results on the ice from the leader. For God's sake, they may as well put the "c" on Kesler, who, along with Burrows and Shannon are the only forwards showing any heart out there. Love how Kesler yelled "fuck me" after he scored his breakaway goal. A relief for him after being the goat in the loss to the Avalanche, and also a breath of fresh air today to a team that needed a spark. Well that spark was short-lived.
"Ten shots on goal? That's embarrassing," he added. "Considering where we are, we should be more desperate than they are."
Best part about tonight? After Dan Sedin coughed the puck up leading to the eventual Kane goal in the 3rd, the twins were BENCHED! About time! Send a message to these dangly little clowns that wimpy passes and plays are not going to cut it.
I think the Nucks will respond against the Avalanche on Tuesday, for one, because they are a divisional opponent and secondly because we probably won't have a playoff spot by then.-I wonder how Jonathan Toews face is after Pettinger decked him. He was leaking blood for sure.
-Just can't blame Luongo at all for the loss today. Not when your team is outshot 28-10. Luongo had no chance on any goals against.
-So the Canucks just can't match the intensity of these non-playoff teams that are on the brink.... disappointing......again.
-I sure like this Hawks squad though. Lots of North American player content. Lots of heart. Great complete game by the Hawks today.

I've long said that naslund is not deserving of a captaincy in this league, especially with the fall-off in his play over the last couple of years. Swap it to someone like Mitchell or somebody who plays with a bit of passion!
It will definitely be a short post-season (if any!) if they keep playing like this. At least a team like the leafs had very little in expectations coming into this year, the canucks were supposed to be good!
That is a big difference alright. The Canucks falling out of a playoff spot is a disappointment because of the expectations. The bar was definitely raised in Vancouver. We just have too many soft Swedes is all. The lightweight finesse-types that can't handle when bigger checking lines beat the piss out of them.
There definitely are two tiers with the swedes for softies and hard.. You've got true warriors like Mats, Lidstrom and Forsberg (when not hurt) and then the sissypants brigade like the wonder twins, nazzy and alfresson.. Makes a HUGE diff come playoff time..
Now, the finns.. they're pretty much all tough. Might not be as skilled or as big, but damn, those suckers don't back down!
Yeah, most fins not named Koivu or Salo are pretty tough!
I like Euro defencemen tho. Ohlund, Krajicek and co...... they play pretty sweet D.
I dunno, Saku is one tough mofo. He kicked cancer's ass, after all. And he is damn hard to knock off the puck for a little dude. Dunno about his brother though..
Sure, the Canucks need to change their captain, but where is the fire on the rest of the roster?
Unless coach Vigneault is completely being tuned out, the roster is full of too many players simply going through the motions.
I think that asking Isbister to score 10 goals is too much.
But it's good to see Frick and Frack picking it up (Kess and Burrows).
Yeah Jes, there's too many problems right now. 10 shots in a must-win game paints an ugly story. I HOPE they are not tuning Vigneault out. He didn't win the Jack Adams for nothing.
