Luongo to skip All-Star Game

Sportsnet is reporting that Roberto Luongo is planning on skipping the game to be with his pregnant wife, Gina, who is due in April.
I don't know how much controversy this will stir up. In a sense, it's an honor to be named starting goalie at the All-Star Game, and the fans voted him there. But realistically, he's free to do what he wants, and a little wife-time isn't always a bad thing!

It seems a little douchey to me.. I mean, you're being paid a ridiculous amount of money to play a game, the season only takes up 6-7 months of the year, and I'm sure people pulling down less than 1/10th as much have to work the occasional extra time here and there.

Suck it up and respect the fans. I never watch allstar games personally, hell I'm not even a canucks fan, but my respect for luongo just went down from that.

It's not exactly like the allstar game is all about business.. I think he just couldnt bear having 3+ goals scored on him in the first period.

Maybe...
Maybe his wife demanded it of him. I like that he skips it just for the sake of avoiding possible injury. We can't afford to lose him.
I guess he's also missing the first Canucks game after the All-Star Game as well.
Maybe there is an underlying issue there that really isn't any of our business....who knows.

Hmm... I'd chalk it up to a couple of things.

1. Schedule - He might need/want the break because he plays too much.

2. Travel considerations - there was some mention on the 1040 during the Islanders game about weather or not he'd play the first game after the All-star game back in Vancouver. They figured he wouldn't either way. And I kind of agree.

In my opinion, I'm happy to see him take the weekend off. Better for the Canucks. If it's good for the game as a whole I think is another issue.

What is the point of fan balloting?

Really.

Good for him thought that he has the luxury of re-tooling his schedule. I think the Canucks management would probably oblige anyone in the same circumstances, whether Luongo or Edler or anyone else whose wife is pregnant. When it comes to the birth of children, I don't think a parent should be forced to miss it for work-related reasons.

...a little wife-time isn't always a bad thing!

Geez man! Keep it quiet! Doesn't your wife read this blog??? She's gonna start getting ideas in her head...

Yeah but the child isn't due until April though! The AS Game is in a couple weeks.
Bottom line for me though, is that it doesn't matter that Louie takes a pass. The all-star game is not that big of a deal.

I think Luongo is a total P**SY!

He should have told the fans a long time ago he wasnt going to play in this game. He is selfish as he was voted in by the fans and doesnt go because his wife is due in April...give me an effin break! What has held HER back to join her husband at the All Star game? It is about an hour plane ride from Ft Lauderdale and how convenient that he stays in FL until the rest of the team get there after a home game after the All Star game! He needs to re-attach his testicles that now are in Mrs Luongo's purse. This is a slap in the face to NHL fans who voted for him and a total disregard to the game. He should be fined and I hope the Canucks miss out on a playoff spot by one point...the Vancouver fans and media should have his head!

I am a Canucks fan and disgusted by these events.
