Waiting For Flooding
Communities and home-owners along the banks of the Fraser, Bulkey and Skeena Rivers in British Columbia are on evacuation warning. The earliest evacuations could begin on Tuesday in northern BC, as a low-pressure storm system moves over B.C from the southwest, probably dumping large amounts of rain.(pictured).
The 33 degree celsius-plus weather has already raised the rivers by several feet this weekend, as there is still a lot of snow in the many mountain ranges along Western BC. Way too much snow.
If the storm system brings a lot of rain and the temperatures rise again later in the week, we could see the biggest flooding in this area in years. The river levels are forecasted to be the highest since 1972.
For now, even in my hometown of Smithers, residents flock to the rivers occasionally to check the levels and watch the water come up. Honestly, our dark, curious sides actually want to see nature inflict it's wrath. Hell, I love natural disasters even if it is at the expense of others' belongings, but never their lives.
It really doesn't pay to live on a flood plain with a river bank that is 4 feet high or less. And it is abundantly clear at times like this.

The mountain looks a little far away to be Telkwa... great pic, though.
I imagine I'll be one busy sonofagun for the next couple of weeks. I sure hope people take precautions... like moving their expensive collectibles and shite out of their basement! You have no idea how many basements I walk into and see thousands of dollars worth of stuff (aka junk) lying around. Makes pumping out the water a lot more difficult :-)

Man, the river is almost going over the bank at the end of main street. It's inches away. It's funny, so many people are driving by, stopping and watching.

Nope...actually...I have gone fishing up that direction (gasp...woman...fishing)....and I have passed through there coming from the Yukon to University in Alaska.

Women go fishing? Is that right? I thought they just popped out kids and stayed at home while the husbands did all the fun stuff with their buddies! :)
Shit, I missed that memo....hmm...must be why I am happily divorced! To be honest, my job is fishing, so I tend to get to do alot of it. Also tend to do alot of hockey....and yet..still a woman.....will wonders never cease.

oh...and screw Alaska...I didn't go to University there.....I came through Smithers the first time traveling from the Yukon TO ALBERTA.
Shit, yeah...ok...not much better then Alaska.
The Fraser sure is one long-ass river.
