Guerin to the Islanders? / Other news

With only just over 4 days left before the trade deadline, the airwaves are ripe with rumors. The following are the biggest rumors I've heard or read about today:

  • Bill Guerin is close to being traded to the New York Islanders. Apparently Barry Melrose reported this on a New York radio station today. (Spector's)
  • Georges Laracque could soon become Sidney Crosby's bodyguard. According to Spector's:
..he's yet to be asked by the Coyotes to waive his "no-trade" clause, "but he did reveal the Coyotes told him he would not be playing another game for them."
  • A Washington Post writer states that if Richard Zednik and Dainus Zubrus are not signed by next Tuesday, they will be traded.
  • The Los Angeles Times reports that Brian Burke is pursuing a forward to help the Ducks score more.
  • Marco Sturm and the Bruins have almost completed a deal.
  • San Jose's trade to re-acquire Alexander Korolyuk from the Devils this week has been cancelled, because Korolyuk has refused to leave Russia to join the Sharks. This was the guy San Jose originally traded to New Jersey for Vlad Malakhov, to saves Lamoriello's skin and get him under the cap during preseason. Sounds like dirty dealing to me now that Korolyuk doesn't want to come here.
  • Defenceman Jassen Cullimore is the odd man out in Chicago and could be traded. He'd make a great 5-6th defenceman in Vancouver wouldn't he? How about the return of Jassen?
  • The Red Wings have put futile goalie Joey MacDonald on waivers.
  • Todd Bertuzzi is making life difficult for the Panthers because of his back injury. He may not get moved at the deadline if his back injury doesn't improve, forcing the Panthers to sign him or lose him for nothing in the off season. That would make the Luongo trade the worst deal in years if that happened.
  • Habs coach Guy Carboneau said that Sergei Samsonov played his "best game of the season" in last night's win over Nashville. Just in time for the trade deadline, hey Sergei?
  • Larry Brooks of the New York Post is losing his patience with Jaromir Jagr, who is refusing to participate in shootouts. Fucking Jagr-meister.
  • Lightning GM Jay Feaster is on the hunt for a puck-moving defenceman and a gritty forward.
