Islanders and Flyers swap D-men

The New York Islanders have acquired defenseman Fred Meyer and a conditional third round draft pick from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenseman Alexei Zhitnik. Zhitnik has 11 points and is a +13 in 30 games this season. Freddy Meyer the 4th is slumping this season, with 5 points and a -4 rating in 25 games. Last season, Meyer showed promise, getting 27 points in 57 games and emerging as a top 2 defenceman.
The Islanders must see alot of potential in him. And the Flyers must be desperate for a change to reverse the team's misfortunes.
On top of that, the Islanders lose Zhitnik's $3.5 million salary and acquire Meyer's $525,000.
I would think that this is just the beginning of the overhaul in Philly, as Zhitnik probably won't change the Flyers' scenario all that much. But he will improve their powerplay some, and log massive amounts of icetime.
