Tuesday News

The Bruins have demoted Hannu Toivonen to their farm team and called up Brian Finley to replace him. The goaltending woes continue in Boston. Brian Finley has only ever played 1 game in the NHL, and that was with the Predators last season.
He gave up 7 goals on 41 shots. This season with Providence, Finley has played 8 games, has a 5-3 record, with a 3.08 GAA and a .898 save percentage.
As for Toivonen, he has played in 7 games for Boston this year, has a 2-3 record, a 4.20 GAA, and a .869 save percentage. He is off to a rough start.
Some sports shows are thinking that the Bruins are about to sign Evgeni Nabokov, with this demotion of Toivonen, but as Spector says, the Bruins obviously cannot move enough salary to acquire Nabokov.
This move is a conditioning stint for Toivonen, and/or a look into whether or not Finley is ready to make the jump to the big leagues.

The Flyers recieved more bad news today. Jeff Carter will miss about 6 weeks with a broken bone in his ankle. I think we can expect alot more of these types of injuries, with seemingly more players blocking shots these days.
This is probably why the Flyers have called up Petr Nedved today. OR maybe because they want another team to pick him up on waivers so they'll get a break on his salary.

Damn it. The GM's have not come to a consensus over the NHL's current schedule disgrace. That means we will be stuck with this shit for at least one more season.
Bob Gainey had this to say:

"We're really just beginning the second year of what's set up as a three-year cycle and I think I would prefer to see how it unfolds over a longer time period," Gainey said after a five-hour GMs meeting. "And if there's really drastic iniquities one way or another then that can be looked at with a little more background and little more evidence."

Fuck. The evidence is that we don't want to see Colorado 8 times a year, for example!
I'll bet the GM's of teams in weak divisions were mostly FOR the current schedule. Who's to say....
Lou Lamoriello said:
''I think it's the right decision and hopefully it stays that way,'' said New Jersey Devils GM Lou Lamoriello. ''This is the first year we've had with it, we had great playoff races last year. I can't see any reason why we would change it.''

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coyotes defenceman Keith Ballard could return to their lineup as early as Thursday, after missing a month of play due to a broken hand.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Filip Kuba's goal last night was the first goal scored by a Lightning defenceman this season. Yikes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Both Nicolai Khabibulin (broken finger) and Martin Havlat (ankle) are experiencing setbacks from their injuries. Havlat especially will be out another 2 weeks at least, as he cannot even skate with the team yet.
