PREPARATION (H)ockey

With training camp just weeks away and the first of the hockey pool mags coming out, it's high time to start gathering info for the upcoming season. Here's a breakdown of expected battles for positions on each team, found on CKNW's site. This year is shaping up to be an interesting year for poolies with so many young players expected to crack starting lineups, RFA holdouts and some decent UFA's not signed yet. Personally, I think the under achievers from last season will be the desiding factor in many pools, as they may go under the radar in the first couple rounds, with the likes of Malkin and other young phenom's taking the limelight.

Having taken St Louis third over all and Zanstorm taking Naslund fourth in our pool last year, I'm sure we'll both be looking for our own comeback seasons.

Ouch. Are you guys going to post some "bad ideas", both when it comes to hockey pool early picks and to Texas Hold 'em opening hands?

As far as predictions go, you got to keep it semi-serious and cover your tracks for when you're wrong.
When I say that the Ducks will finish first in the West and I'm wrong, I'll blame it on Captain Morgan's! :)

Heatley better be the next pick, or else something is seriously wrong here, folks.

Hodge - You suck. You pick Lindros for me and I'll pick Keith Primeau for you .

I'm taking Alex O. Sleek will just have to give him up. I have been working the long hours this week. Work gets in the way of blogging too much. If not, I will question his allegience to the Ducks, and take Malkin. So there. I plan to have a plan after tomorrow.

(Hint on beating Sleek in a fantasy pool: if you draft Teemu Selanne, eventually Sleek will trade Ovechkin to you.)

Nice! I'll pick Selanne just before YOU do!

I'll pick Dan Hamhuis as my first defenseman pick... he's going to sign with Detroit any minute now!

I'll take Niedermayer as my first D-man.

It's 4:00am here. I hate being up this early.

tsk, tsk. Pronger is the guy to have. He'll be my new buddy in the penalty box now that Ruslan and Vitaly moved away.

For a D-man, I'll take Nik Lidstrom of course!

A rookie...Malkin for me, and for a goalie I'll take Marty Brodeur

Penner still counts as a rookie, right?

Giguere still counts as a goalie, right?

See? I lost this league already.

Ah Earl, don't pick with your heart, pick with your mind!

Oh, it's so difficult when publications tell you that your team will be #1.

Penner--there could be a good case for him. Not many rookies will have 9 NHL playoff points already when coming into the league, and he's got a shot to be first line LW with McD and Teemu.

Giguere--if we are to be in first place, somebody's gotta get the wins. And last I looked, a Mr. Ilja has no contract.

They're justifiable, to a degree.

I thought he already was bounced back.

One of fifteen goalies to get to 30 wins last year.

2.66 GAA was 12th among goalies.

.911 Sv% was 11th among goalies.

Nothing wrong with those numbers for Jiggy.

(Breezy had a slightly better GAA with a slightly worse Sv%)

Ahhhh Crap, I'm taking Miller, Biron, and Ward for my goalie pick.

I'm also forfeiting my rights to a rookie and taking Spezza instead, no questions asked.

P.S. Zanstorm, can't you read? Malkin is already off the market via Tapeleg...dumbass.....

ahhh crap.....you're supposed to be on my side Hodge, thanks, smartass.

I'll take Heatley if he's not taken over Crusty.

Via email from work this morning, I'm taking Jow Sakic. At least he will give me 80 solid games without dogging it.

Work sucked, but is over. Now I am off to the bar to look for my next pick.

He meant Jow Sakic of the 1967 Mississauga Giants.

Do you have Prince George in a can? Well, you better let him out, or he's going to get attacked by a cougar.
