GOMEZ AWARDED $5 MILLION THROUGH ARBITRATION (Falls to ice.....pukes)

This is still more than GM Lou Lamoriello wanted to pay Gomez, and is less than the $7 million Gomez thought he was worth. It still puts the Devils over the cap by about 4.5 million, and F Brian Gionta has not even been signed yet.
The Devils have 48 hours to decide what they will do. Which is obviously to sign Gomez and then trade him, or someone else. The fallout in Jersey begins....

Here is the Devils' current situation.

Pandolfo....maybe a bit.
Hodge, I am almost giving up on Washington doing anything drastic at all. But...Mogilny did go to Toronto from NJ once...so maybe RC is wrong.

I don't see Lamoriello making a trade in the next week even. He's got a couple months to do that, plus there is a lot of other arbitration processes occuring all over the league.
You'd think he'd wait to settle with Gionta as well.

Wouldn't Lou be looking to beef up his offence?

Hey zanstorm. Love thy site. nice to see some Rookie Card Nostalgia and other good posts. Added you to my blogroll.

On to the topic: I laugh nowadays when The Rangers are fiscally responsible yet New Jersey is the only team going over when it comes to payroll.

$9.3 million in capspace for Malakhov, Mogilny and McGillis? What is he thinking?

At least he's bald so he's not showing any signs of wearing down from the stress. See, Bush, George Jr

Where do you want to go? Jagr at $8,360,000 ($4,180,000??) or Gomez at $5,000,000? It's your call.

I'd say Gomez, because he's a proven winner!
